Sheshai

Sheshai was one of the three sons of Anak, a giant in Canaan whom the Israelites encountered during their conquest of the promised land.

Overview

Sheshai was a descendant of the Anakim, a race of giants inhabiting Canaan. He is mentioned alongside his brothers Ahiman and Talmai as sons of Anak. These giants represented formidable obstacles to Israel's possession of the promised land, yet they were ultimately defeated through God's power.

Key Scriptures

"And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them" (Numbers 13:33, ESV).

"And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak" (Joshua 15:14, ESV).

"And the sons of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it and struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire. And afterward the sons of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the hill country and in the Negeb and in the lowland" (Judges 1:8-9, ESV).

Application

Sheshai's defeat reminds us that no obstacle, however formidable, can withstand God's purpose for His people when we trust in His strength.
