Overview
Shamgar was the third judge of Israel, rising up during a time of Philistine oppression. Though little is recorded about his life, his bold act of deliverance shows God's power working through an unlikely servant. He wielded an ox goad—a simple farming tool—as his weapon, proving that circumstances and resources need not limit what God accomplishes through faithful obedience.
Key Scriptures
"After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed 600 of the Philistines with the sharp end of an ox goad, and he also saved Israel" (Judges 3:31, ESV).
"In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned, and travelers kept to the winding paths" (Judges 5:6, NIV).
Application
Trust that God can accomplish His purposes through you regardless of your limitations, resources, or circumstances—He uses the willing and obedient, not the mighty and well-equipped.
