Fraternity

Fraternity is the bond of brotherly love and unity among believers, grounded in their common faith in Christ and expressed through generosity, reconciliation, and mutual care.

Overview

Biblical fraternity reflects the spiritual kinship of God's people, characterized by sacrificial generosity toward one another and a commitment to reconciliation. The Old Testament emphasizes caring for fellow Israelites as brothers, while the New Testament calls believers to maintain unity and resolve conflicts quickly. True fraternity is evident when brothers dwell together in harmony and extends to practical support and forgiveness.

Key Scriptures

"If there is a poor man among your brothers...do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother" (Deuteronomy 15:7, NIV). "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!" (Psalm 133:1, ESV). "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there...first go and be reconciled to them" (Matthew 5:23-24, NIV).

Application

Actively pursue reconciliation with fellow believers and demonstrate fraternal love through generous giving and forgiveness, reflecting Christ's sacrificial love for the church.
