Shame

Shame is a consequence of sin and separation from God, yet Christ removes our shame through His redemptive work, calling us to abandon worldly shame and embrace His righteousness.

Overview

Shame entered humanity through sin and represents our fallen condition before God. However, the gospel offers complete restoration—Jesus Christ bore our shame on the cross, and through faith in Him, believers are freed from the guilt and disgrace that sin produces. We are called to reject shame about our faith and embrace the glory of Christ's redemption.

Key Scriptures

"For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38, ESV).

"And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:10, ESV).

"Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2, ESV).

Application

Confess any shame about your faith to the Lord and boldly proclaim Jesus, knowing that He has conquered shame through His resurrection and victory.
