Abiathar

The son of Ahimelech, a high priest who escaped the massacre of the priests of Nob by King Saul and became a loyal supporter of David.

Abiathar fled to David carrying the ephod (a priestly garment used for divination). He served as David’s high priest throughout his time as an outlaw and during the early part of his reign. During Absalom’s rebellion, Abiathar remained loyal to David. However, in David’s old age, Abiathar supported Adonijah’s claim to the throne against Solomon. Consequently, Solomon banished Abiathar, fulfilling the prophecy against the house of Eli.
