Tent

Tents served as the primary dwelling for nomadic peoples throughout Scripture, symbolizing temporary earthly residence and pilgrimage toward God's eternal kingdom.

Overview

Tents were essential structures in biblical times, used by nomads, armies, and travelers. They represent both the transient nature of earthly life and God's provision for His people during their journeys. The tabernacle itself was constructed as a tent, emphasizing God's presence among His traveling people.

Key Scriptures

"And because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade" (Acts 18:3, ESV). Paul's tentmaking provided his livelihood and supported his missionary work.

"And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. And Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold... And he journeyed on by stages toward the Negeb" (Genesis 24:67, ESV).

"Then Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent and into the tent of the two maidservants, but he did not find the household gods" (Genesis 31:33, ESV).

Application

Consider how your temporary earthly circumstances point you toward your eternal home with Christ.
