Zurishaddai

Zurishaddai was the father of Shelumiel, leader of the tribe of Simeon during Israel's wilderness wanderings. He appears in the census records and tribal offerings narratives of Numbers.

Overview

Zurishaddai (meaning "my rock is the Almighty") was a leader in Israel whose son Shelumiel served as the prince of the tribe of Simeon. Though Zurishaddai himself is not extensively developed in Scripture, his name appears in the official genealogical records of Israel's tribal organization and religious observances during the wilderness period.

Key Scriptures

"Of Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai" (Numbers 1:6, ESV). "The tribe of Simeon shall camp next to it. The leader of the people of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai" (Numbers 2:12, ESV). "On the fifth day Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, the leader of the people of Simeon" (Numbers 7:36, ESV).

Application

Zurishaddai's legacy reminds us that faithful service often continues through our descendants, and that God values both public leaders and the families who support them in His covenant community.
