Zobah

Zobah was an Aramean kingdom in Syria that opposed Israel during the reigns of Saul and David. David defeated Zobah's forces and brought the territory under Israelite control, expanding his kingdom significantly.

Overview

Zobah was a Syrian kingdom located north of Israel that posed a military threat to the nation. During Saul's reign, Israel engaged in conflict with Zobah, but David's victories decisively subdued the kingdom and incorporated its wealth and territory into the Israelite empire. These conquests demonstrated God's faithfulness in granting David military success and expanding Israel's borders.

Key Scriptures

"Saul fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, against the Ammonites, against Edom, against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines" (1 Samuel 14:47, ESV).

"David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the River Euphrates" (2 Samuel 8:3, ESV).

"And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a great amount of bronze" (2 Samuel 8:8, ESV).

Application

Recognize that God grants victory to His people when they trust in Him, and that earthly conquests ultimately serve His sovereign purposes.
