Zillah

Zillah was one of Lamech's wives in the antediluvian world, mother of Tubal-cain and Naamah. She represents the early human lineage before the flood.

Overview

Zillah was the second wife of Lamech, a descendant of Cain living in the pre-flood era. She bore two notable children: Tubal-cain, described as the first forger of bronze and iron implements, and Naamah. Though mentioned briefly in Genesis, Zillah represents the human development and civilization that existed before God's judgment through the flood.

Key Scriptures

"Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other was Zillah" (Genesis 4:19, ESV).

"Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron" (Genesis 4:22, ESV).

"Lamech said to his wives: 'Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say'" (Genesis 4:23, ESV).

Application

Zillah's account reminds us that God records the details of human history and family lineage, emphasizing His sovereignty over all generations and His attention to those often overlooked in Scripture.
