Overview
Pigeons were commonly used in Levitical sacrificial worship, particularly for sin offerings, guilt offerings, and purification ceremonies. Because they were more affordable than larger animals, pigeons provided a means for poor families to fulfill their religious obligations before God. The bird's use in sacrifice underscores God's acceptance of humble offerings given in genuine faith.
Key Scriptures
"He said to him, 'Bring me a heifer, a goat, and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon'" (Genesis 15:9, NIV).
"If the offering is a burnt offering from the birds, he is to offer a dove or a young pigeon" (Leviticus 1:14, NIV).

"But if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons" (Luke 2:24, NIV).
Application
Remember that God values the sincere offering of what we can afford, not the size of the gift.
