Mire, Figurative

Mire in Scripture represents spiritual danger, despair, and being stuck in sin or difficult circumstances. God rescues believers from the mire through His grace and power.

Overview

The mire (mud or swamp) serves as a biblical metaphor for spiritual peril, moral compromise, and being trapped by sin or adversity. Just as one cannot escape physical mire by their own strength, believers cannot rescue themselves from spiritual danger. God alone provides deliverance from the mire through His mercy and intervention.

Key Scriptures

"He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings" (Psalm 40:2, KJV).

"I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me" (Psalm 69:2, KJV).

Application

When you feel trapped by sin or circumstances, cry out to God in faith, trusting that He alone can lift you from the mire and set your feet on solid ground.
