Overview
Mattathias appears in Luke's genealogy of Jesus Christ, listed as the son of Amos and father of Joseph (or Heli in some textual traditions). While little is known about him personally, his inclusion in the Gospel genealogy underscores that Jesus came through a real human family line, fulfilling Old Testament promises of a Messiah descended from the line of David.
Key Scriptures
"the son of Amos, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda" (Luke 3:25, ESV).
"being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi" (Luke 3:23-24, ESV).
Application
Remember that Jesus' incarnation was genuine and historical, born into a real family line, which validates the reliability of Scripture and Jesus' fulfillment of messianic prophecy.
