Humility of Christ, the

The humility of Christ is His voluntary self-emptying and submission to the Father's will, demonstrated throughout His earthly ministry from His birth to His death. This humility is the pattern and motivation for believers to pursue humility in their own lives.

Overview

Christ's humility permeates the Gospel accounts. He was born in a humble stable, submitted to John's baptism despite being sinless, and ultimately humbled Himself to death on the cross. His humility was not weakness but the expression of His perfect obedience and love.

"And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will'" (Matthew 26:39, ESV).
