Overview
Ephesus was a prominent city in Asia Minor and became an important center for early Christian ministry. Paul spent considerable time there (Acts 18-19), and it later became the location of one of the seven churches addressed in Revelation. The church at Ephesus exemplifies both spiritual strength and spiritual decline.
Key Scriptures
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: 'The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil' (Revelation 2:1-2, ESV).
"But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first" (Revelation 2:4-5, ESV).
Application
Evaluate whether your personal faith remains rooted in genuine love for Christ, not merely in outward works and doctrinal correctness.
