Overview
Zebina appears in the biblical record as one of the descendants of Nebo who had married foreign women during the Babylonian exile. When Ezra discovered these intermarriages upon returning to Jerusalem, he called the people to repentance and separation from their non-Israelite wives to maintain the purity of God's covenant people.
Key Scriptures
"And of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel and Benaiah." (Ezra 10:43, ESV)
"These had taken foreign wives, and some of the women had even borne children." (Ezra 10:44, ESV)
Application
Zebina's willingness to obey Ezra's call to separate from his foreign wife demonstrates the importance of responding to God's Word with immediate obedience, even when it requires personal sacrifice and difficult decisions.
