Overview
Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector in Jericho known for his wealth and collaboration with Rome. Despite his social status and riches, he sought out Jesus, climbing a tree to see Him. Jesus called him by name, went to his house, and Zacchaeus experienced genuine conversion, pledging to restore his ill-gotten gains and give generously to the poor.
Key Scriptures
"Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.'" (Luke 19:9-10, NIV)
"Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, 'Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.'" (Luke 19:8, NIV)
Application
Like Zacchaeus, genuine conversion produces visible fruit through changed behavior and restored relationships, revealing that true faith in Christ transforms both heart and conduct.
