3 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Zaretan (also spelled Zarethan) was a significant location in the Jordan Valley east of the Jordan River. It served as a geographical marker during Israel's crossing into Canaan and was later known for its role in bronze work during Solomon's reign. The city's mention in Scripture highlights both God's miraculous intervention and the organized structure of the united monarchy.

Key Scriptures

"The water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the region of Zaretan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off" (Joshua 3:16, NIV).

"Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites; and Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor" in the region that included Zaretan (1 Kings 4:12, NIV).

"The king had them cast in clay molds in the plain of the Jordan between Succoth and Zarethan" (1 Kings 7:46, ESV).
