Overview

Zarah (also spelled Zerah) was born to Judah and Tamar through their union recorded in Genesis 38. Though he emerged from the womb first during a difficult twin birth, his brother Pharez became the prominent line through which the Messiah would descend. Zarah's descendants formed a significant household within the tribe of Judah and maintained their identity throughout Israel's history.
