Zeboim

7 scripture references across 2 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Zeboim (also spelled Zeboiim) was one of five cities located in the Valley of Siddim in ancient Canaan, near the Dead Sea. Along with Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Bela, it was destroyed by God as judgment against the inhabitants' sin and rebellion. The city is mentioned primarily in historical and prophetic contexts throughout Scripture.

Key Scriptures

"And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha" (Genesis 10:19, ESV).

"And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out" (Genesis 14:2, ESV).

"How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel?... I will not execute my fierce anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath" (Hosea 11:8, ESV).

Application

Remember that God's judgment is certain against sin, yet His mercy toward His people remains steadfast when they turn to Him in repentance.
