Overview

Zabbud was a family leader among the Israelites who returned from Babylonian exile to Jerusalem under Ezra's leadership in the fifth century BC. His name appears in the genealogical record of those who made the journey back to the promised land. Though little is known about him personally, his inclusion in Scripture demonstrates God's faithfulness in preserving and restoring His people.

"Of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him 28 males" (Ezra 8:11, ESV). "Of the sons of Bani, Shelomith the son of Josiphiah, and with him 160 males. Of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai, and with him twenty-eight males" (Ezra 8:10-11, NASB).

Application

Zabbud's faithfulness to return and rebuild reminds us that God remembers His covenant people and calls us to be faithful in His purposes, however small our individual role may seem.
