Kirjath-Sepher

2 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Kirjath-Sepher was a fortified Canaanite city in the hill country of Judah that played a significant role in Israel's conquest of Canaan. Caleb, one of the faithful spies, offered the city to whoever would capture it, along with his daughter Acsah as a bride. This demonstrates the military challenges faced during the conquest and the rewards system Caleb implemented.

Key Scriptures

"And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife." (Joshua 15:16, KJV)

"And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife." (Joshua 15:17, KJV)

Application

Caleb's bold challenge reminds us that faith and courage in pursuing God's purposes often bring both material blessing and deeper relationships with His people.
