Overview
Wine presses were essential to ancient Near Eastern agriculture, typically consisting of a treading floor and a collecting vat. Grapes were crushed by foot or stone to produce wine, which was a staple beverage and commodity. The wine press also appears metaphorically in Scripture to represent God's wrath and judgment upon sin.
