Shaalbim

Shaalbim was a city in the territory of Dan, notable for being a place where the Danites initially failed to fully possess the land during the conquest of Canaan.

Overview

Shaalbim was a city allocated to the tribe of Dan during the division of the Promised Land. Though assigned to Dan's inheritance, the Danites were initially unable to drive out the Amorite inhabitants, demonstrating the incomplete nature of Israel's early conquest. The city later became significant during Solomon's administrative reorganization of the kingdom.

Key Scriptures

"Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon, with their pasture lands; four cities. And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon, with their pasture lands; four cities." (Joshua 19:42, ESV)

"Yet the Amorites persisted in dwelling in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily on them, and they became subject to forced labor." (Judges 1:35, ESV)

"Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach, Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan below Jezreel, and from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as the other side of Jokmeam." (1 Kings 4:9, ESV)

Application

Shaalbim reminds us that spiritual victory requires complete obedience and perseverance, not partial commitment.
