Overview
The Persian Empire under kings like Ahasuerus and Darius played a crucial role in biblical history. God preserved the Jewish nation through Queen Esther during Persian rule and enabled the Jewish remnant to return from captivity to rebuild the temple and walls of Jerusalem under Persian permission and protection.
Key Scriptures
"In the third year of the reign of King Ahasuerus, he gave a banquet for all his princes and servants" (Esther 1:1, ESV). "It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps, to be stationed throughout the kingdom" (Daniel 6:1, ESV). "Now the king's word and his decree were firm, so no one could change it" (Daniel 6:8, ESV). God's providence over Persia is demonstrated as He worked through pagan rulers to preserve Israel and restore His people.
Application
Trust that God works through earthly governments and circumstances to accomplish His redemptive purposes, even when His hand is not immediately visible.
