Nazareth

Nazareth was a small town in Galilee where Jesus grew up and spent most of his earthly life before his public ministry. It became known as 'Jesus of Nazareth' throughout the Gospels.

Overview

Nazareth was an obscure village in lower Galilee where Mary and Joseph lived. Jesus was brought there as an infant after returning from Egypt, and He grew up in this humble hometown. During His ministry, Jesus taught in the Nazareth synagogue, though His own townspeople rejected Him.

Key Scriptures

"Philip found Nathanael and said to him, 'We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.' Nathanael said to him, 'Can anything good come out of Nazareth?'" (John 1:45-46, ESV)

"And Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read" (Luke 4:16, ESV)

Application

Remember that God often works through humble, overlooked circumstances—Jesus's small-town upbringing didn't diminish His identity as the Son of God or His redemptive mission.
