Overview
Hormah was a significant city in Canaan that became the site of Israel's vow and God's miraculous deliverance. When the Canaanite king of Arad attacked Israel, the people made a covenant with the Lord, promising to completely destroy the city if God would deliver it into their hands. The Lord honored their faith and granted them victory.

"When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the Negeb, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and took some of them captive" (Numbers 21:1, ESV).
"And Israel vowed a vow to the Lord and said, 'If you will indeed give this people into my hand, then I will devote their cities to destruction'" (Numbers 21:2, ESV).
"And the Lord listened to the voice of Israel and gave over the Canaanites, and they devoted them and their cities to destruction. So the name of the place was called Hormah" (Numbers 21:3, ESV).
