Bathsheba was bathing when King David saw her from his rooftop. He summoned her, committed adultery, and she conceived. David arranged for her husband Uriah to be killed in battle, then married her. The prophet Nathan confronted David; the child died. David later comforted Bathsheba, and she bore Solomon. When David was old, Bathsheba and Nathan secured Solomon's succession against Adonijah's claim. She appears in the New Testament genealogy of Jesus as "the wife of Uriah."
