Azzur

A Benjamite whose son Jaazaniah was among the seventy elders seen in Ezekiel's vision committing idolatry in the Temple chambers.

Azzur is mentioned as the father of Jaazaniah, a leader of the people. In Ezekiel's vision (around 592 BC), he saw seventy elders of Israel, including Jaazaniah son of Azzur, standing before idolatrous images in a hidden room of the Temple. Each elder held a censer, and smoke rose from their incense. God declared that the sins of the elders would be judged. Azzur's name means "helper."
