Overview
The Stairs of David were part of Jerusalem's physical infrastructure during the time of Nehemiah's rebuilding efforts following the Babylonian exile. These stairs provided access along the slopes of the City of David and represented the restoration of Jerusalem's defenses and public spaces under Nehemiah's leadership.
Key Scriptures
"Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, repaired opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the house of the mighty men" (Nehemiah 3:16, ESV). "And at the Fountain Gate they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, even to the Water Gate on the east" (Nehemiah 12:37, ESV).
Application
Consider how God enables His people to restore what has been broken, whether physically rebuilding communities or spiritually rebuilding lives through faith and obedience.
