Overview
Skin appears throughout Scripture as a symbol of our vulnerable humanity and God's provision. In Genesis, skin garments represent God's covering after humanity's fall into sin. In the tabernacle, animal skins were essential materials for the tent structure and sacred furnishings, demonstrating how God accepted the sacrifice of animals to cover His people's sins—a picture of Christ's ultimate sacrifice.
Key Scriptures
"The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them" (Genesis 3:21, ESV). "They shall spread a blue cloth over the golden table of the bread of the Presence...and they shall cover these with a covering of fine leather" (Numbers 4:7-8, ESV). "They shall take a cloth of blue and cover the lampstand of the light...and shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of fine leather" (Numbers 4:9-10, ESV).
Application
Recognize that just as God clothed Adam and Eve's shame with skins, Christ covers our sins through His sacrifice, calling us to accept His redemptive grace.
