Siphmoth

Siphmoth was a town in southern Judah where David sent a portion of the spoils from his victory over the Amalekites. It appears only once in Scripture as one of the cities that received David's gifts.

Overview

Siphmoth was a settlement in the Negev region of southern Judah during the reign of King David. When David defeated the Amalekites and recovered the spoils they had taken, he distributed portions of the plunder to the elders of various Judean cities, including Siphmoth, as a gesture of goodwill and gratitude.

Key Scriptures

"He sent some of the spoil to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, 'Here is a present for you from the spoil of the enemies of the Lord': it was sent to those in Bethel, those in Ramoth of the Negev, those in Jattir, those in Aroer, those in Siphmoth, those in Eshtemoa, those in Racal, those in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, those in the cities of the Kenites" (1 Samuel 30:26-29, ESV).

Application

David's distribution of spoils to distant cities demonstrates the importance of sharing blessings with others and building community support during times of victory.
