Overview
Shuni was one of the sons of Gad, Jacob's seventh son, making him a grandson of Jacob and part of the founding tribes of Israel. His name appears in the genealogical records during two key periods: when Jacob's family entered Egypt and during the census in the wilderness after the exodus.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Gad by their clans: of Zephon, the clan of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the clan of the Haggites; of Shuni, the clan of the Shunites" (Numbers 26:15, ESV).
"The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli" (Genesis 46:16, ESV).
Application
While Shuni's personal story is not detailed in Scripture, his inclusion in these genealogies reminds us that God faithfully tracked and preserved every member of His covenant people, demonstrating that each person matters in God's redemptive plan.
