Shuham

Shuham was a son of Dan and grandson of Jacob, representing one of the tribal lineages of Israel.

Overview

Shuham was the son of Dan, Jacob's fifth son, making him a grandson of Jacob and part of the foundational tribal structure of ancient Israel. He is mentioned in the census records as the head of the Shuhamite clan, which descended from him.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Dan: Hushim. These are the sons of Dan by their families." (Genesis 46:23, ESV) - Shuham is also called Hushim in this genealogy.

"The sons of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan according to their families. All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those that were numbered of them, were threescore and four thousand and four hundred." (Numbers 26:42, KJV)

Application

While Shuham himself appears only briefly in Scripture, his descendants remind us that God faithfully preserves tribal lineages and fulfills His covenant promises to Abraham through the multiplication of Jacob's descendants.
