Overview
Shenazar was a son of Jehoiachin, the king of Judah who was taken captive to Babylon in 597 BC. He is mentioned in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles 3:18 as one of six sons born to Jehoiachin during or after his captivity. His name appears in the lineage that connects the pre-exile Davidic monarchy to the post-exile restoration period.
Key Scriptures
"The sons of Jehoiachin: Assir, Shealtiel his son, Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazar, Jekamiah, Hoshama and Nedabiah." (1 Chronicles 3:17-18, ESV)
This genealogy demonstrates God's faithfulness to preserve the line of David even during the nation's exile, fulfilling His covenant promises made to David in 2 Samuel 7.
Application
Shenazar's place in the biblical record reminds us that God preserves His purposes and people through even the darkest periods of judgment and captivity.
