Overview

Shemuel (also spelled Samuel in some contexts) was an Israelite leader who played a role in the distribution of the Promised Land among the tribes. He served as a representative of the tribe of Simeon during the crucial period of Israel's settlement in Canaan under Joshua's leadership.

"The leader of the people of Simeon was Shemuel the son of Ammihud" (Numbers 34:20, ESV).
