Overview
Trogyllium was a minor port town located on the coast of Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), situated between Samos and Miletus. Paul's ship stopped there overnight during his third missionary journey as he hurried to reach Jerusalem by Pentecost. Though geographically insignificant, this stop demonstrates the detailed historical accuracy of Luke's account in Acts.
Key Scriptures
Acts 20:15 (ESV) - "And sailing from there we came the following day opposite Chios; the next day we touched at Samos; and the day after that we came to Miletus." (Note: Some manuscripts include Trogyllium in this verse: "and having stopped at Trogyllium.")
Acts 20:16 (NIV) - "Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost."
Application
Paul's purposeful journey reminds believers to maintain spiritual priorities and stay focused on God's calling, even when minor delays or detours present themselves.
