Tin

Tin was a valuable metal in biblical times, used in various alloys and trade goods, and symbolically represents dross or worthless material when describing spiritual impurity.

Overview

Tin appears in Scripture as a precious metal valued for crafting and commerce in the ancient Near East. It was often combined with copper to create bronze, one of the most important materials of biblical civilization. The metal also served as a metaphor for spiritual corruption and worthlessness.

Key Scriptures

"Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, and lead" (Numbers 31:22, ESV) - listing tin among the spoils of war taken from Midian.

"As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted in the midst of it, and you will know that I am the Lord, when I pour out my wrath upon you" (Ezekiel 22:20, ESV) - using tin and other metals as imagery for refining judgment.

"The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they exchanged for your wares the finest of all kinds of spices and all precious stones and gold" (Ezekiel 27:12, ESV) - tin mentioned among valuable trade goods.

Application

Consider how God refines His people through trials, removing spiritual impurities just as metals are purified in fire.
