Overview
Thebez was a fortified city that became the site of divine judgment against Abimelech, son of Gideon. After Abimelech had murdered seventy of his brothers to secure his rule over Israel, he laid siege to Thebez. As he fought to breach the city's tower, a courageous woman cast a millstone down upon his head, mortally wounding him. This event demonstrated God's justice against Abimelech's wickedness and ambition.
Key Scriptures
"Then he went to the tower of Thebez and encamped against it and took it. But there was a strong tower in the city, and all the men and women and all the leaders of the city fled into it and shut themselves in, and they went up on the roof of the tower." (Judges 9:51, ESV)
"And a certain woman cast an upper millstone on Abimelech's head and crushed his skull." (Judges 9:53, ESV)
Application
We should remember that God ultimately judges those who pursue power through wickedness and violence, reminding us to trust in His justice rather than in human schemes.
