Witchcraft

Witchcraft and sorcery are explicitly condemned throughout Scripture as practices that violate God's commands and lead people away from reliance on Him alone. Believers are called to reject all forms of divination, mediumship, and occult practices.

Overview

The Bible consistently prohibits witchcraft, sorcery, and consulting with mediums or spiritists. These practices represent rebellion against God's authority and an attempt to access spiritual power outside of His ordained means. The case of King Saul consulting a medium at Endor (1 Samuel 28) demonstrates the gravity of this sin and its consequences.

Key Scriptures

"You shall not permit a sorceress to live" (Exodus 22:18, ESV).

"Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them" (Leviticus 19:31, ESV).

"Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. And Saul had put the mediums and the necromancers out of the land" (1 Samuel 28:3, ESV).

Application

Believers should completely avoid any involvement with witchcraft, tarot, séances, or divination, trusting instead in God's Word and prayer for guidance and wisdom.
