Overview
Pathros refers to Upper Egypt, specifically the southern region of ancient Egypt. After Babylon's destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC, Jewish refugees fled to Egypt, settling in various locations including Pathros. The prophet Jeremiah was taken there against his will and continued to proclaim God's word among the exiles.
Key Scriptures
"In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea" (Isaiah 11:11, ESV).
"All the Judeans in Pathros said to Jeremiah, 'The word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you'" (Jeremiah 44:15, ESV).
"I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom" (Ezekiel 29:14, ESV).
Application
Remember that God's sovereignty extends over all nations and He preserves a faithful remnant even in exile, calling believers to trust His promises of restoration.
