Nahath

Nahath was the name of multiple individuals in Old Testament genealogies, including an Edomite clan leader and Levitical musicians. These references demonstrate the importance of genealogical records in biblical history.

Overview

Nahath appears several times in Old Testament genealogies, first as a son of Reuel and grandson of Esau among the Edomite clans (Genesis 36:13, 17). He also appears in the lineage of Levites who served in temple worship and as officials during King Hezekiah's religious reforms.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah" (Genesis 36:13, ESV).

"These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan: Eliphaz, Reuel... And the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah" (Genesis 36:4-5, 17, ESV).

"Nahath... was appointed to be in charge of the freewill offerings" (2 Chronicles 31:13, ESV).

Application

Though Nahath's specific deeds are not detailed, his inclusion in scripture reminds us that God values faithfulness in service, whether prominent or behind the scenes.
