Overview
Medan was born to Abraham and Keturah, his second wife whom he took after Sarah's death. He represents one of the Arabian tribes that descended from Abraham, along with his brothers Zimran, Jokshan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Though Medan is mentioned in Scripture, little is recorded about his individual life or descendants.
Key Scriptures
"Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah" (Genesis 25:1-2, ESV).
"The sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah" (1 Chronicles 1:32, NASB).
Application
Medan's mention in Scripture reminds us that God fulfilled His promise to make Abraham the father of many nations, and all peoples who trust in Christ become spiritual heirs of Abraham's faith.
