Overview
After crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites traveled three days into the wilderness of Shur and came to Marah, where they found water but could not drink it because it was bitter. Facing thirst and hardship, the people complained against Moses. God showed Moses a piece of wood to throw into the water, which made it sweet and drinkable, and the Lord established a statute and ordinance for the people.
Key Scriptures
"Then Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter" (Exodus 15:22-23, ESV).
"And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet" (Exodus 15:25, ESV).
Application
When facing difficulties, believers should bring their concerns to God rather than murmur in complaint, trusting that He provides solutions and cares for our deepest needs.
