Lachish

Lachish was an ancient fortified city in Judah that played a significant role in Israel's history, particularly during King Hezekiah's reign when it faced Assyrian siege.

Overview

Lachish was a strategically important fortified city in the kingdom of Judah, located southwest of Jerusalem. The city is most notably remembered from the account of King Hezekiah's reign, when the Assyrian king Sennacherib laid siege to multiple Judean cities. Lachish's prominence in Scripture demonstrates God's protection over His people during times of military threat and foreign invasion.

Key Scriptures

"In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them" (2 Kings 18:13, ESV). "And the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rab-saris, and the Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem with a great army" (2 Kings 18:17, ESV). "Joshua took Makkedah on that day and struck it, and its king, with the edge of the sword...and he did to the king of Lachish as he had done to the king of Makkedah" (Joshua 10:28, 32, ESV).

Application

Remember that God remains sovereign over all earthly powers and circumstances, calling us to trust in His protection rather than fear human threats.
