Kibroth-Hattaavah

Kibroth-Hattaavah ('Graves of Craving') was the site where God judged Israel's complaining about food in the wilderness. The location marked a severe consequence for the people's lustful desires and ingratitude.

Overview

Kibroth-Hattaavah was a wilderness encampment where God sent quail to satisfy Israel's craving for meat, but also sent a plague that killed many who ate with greedy excess. This incident revealed the danger of fleshly desire opposing God's provision and sovereignty.

Key Scriptures

"Now a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It brought them down all around the camp to about three feet above the ground, as far as a day's journey in any direction." (Numbers 11:31, NIV)

"All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp." (Numbers 11:32, NIV)

"But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague." (Numbers 11:33, NIV)

Application

Examine your heart for complaints against God's provision, remembering that indulging fleshly cravings without gratitude invites divine judgment.
