John

The return of Jesus Christ is a foundational Christian doctrine describing His future coming to judge the living and dead and establish His eternal kingdom. This hope defines Christian faith and motivates holy living.

Overview

Christ's return, also called the Second Coming or Parousia, is explicitly promised throughout Scripture as a literal, bodily return to earth. Jesus will come to resurrect believers, judge all people, defeat Satan and evil, and reign forever in a restored creation.

Key Scriptures

"Jesus said to them, 'Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel'" (Matthew 19:28, NASB).

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:16, NASB).

"Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him" (Revelation 1:7, NASB).

Application

Living with expectation of Christ's return should purify your conduct and deepen your commitment to sharing the gospel with urgency.
