Preparation Day

Preparation Day refers to Friday before the Sabbath, when the Jewish people prepared for their day of rest. Jesus was crucified on Preparation Day, with His burial completed before the Sabbath began.

Overview

Preparation Day (Greek: paraskeue) was the day before the Jewish Sabbath when people prepared food, completed work, and made necessary arrangements for the day of rest. Jesus' crucifixion occurred on Preparation Day, fulfilling God's redemptive plan as the perfect Lamb of God.

Key Scriptures

"When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph: Who also himself was Jesus' disciple" (Matthew 27:57, KJV). "And when even now was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath" (Mark 15:42, KJV). "And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on" (Luke 23:54, KJV).
