Jason

Jason was a believer in Thessalonica who hosted Paul and Silas, and was brought before city authorities for harboring these Christian missionaries. His example demonstrates the cost of Christian hospitality and faithfulness during persecution.

Overview

Jason was a man of Thessalonica who opened his home to the apostle Paul and Silas during their missionary journey. When a mob of unbelieving Jews became jealous of Paul's gospel ministry, they dragged Jason before the city magistrates, accusing him of sedition for receiving these Christian teachers who proclaimed Jesus as king.

Key Scriptures

"And the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the people" (Acts 17:5, NKJV).

"And when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, 'These who have turned the world upside down have come here too'" (Acts 17:6, NKJV).

"They made Jason and the others post bond" (Acts 17:9, ESV).

Application

Jason's faithfulness in sheltering persecuted believers reminds us that following Christ may require personal sacrifice, and we should be willing to support gospel workers even when it brings social or legal pressure.
