Iscah

Iscah was a daughter of Haran and granddaughter of Terah, mentioned briefly in Genesis as part of Abraham's family lineage. Her name appears only once in Scripture, with interpretations suggesting she may have been the same person as Milcah.

Overview

Iscah is mentioned only in Genesis 11:29 as a daughter of Haran, Abraham's brother. Little is known about her from Scripture itself, though some commentators suggest she may have been identical with Milcah, who married Nahor and became the mother of Bethuel, grandfather of Rebekah. Her brief appearance in the genealogical record shows God's preservation of Abraham's family line.

Key Scriptures

"And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah" (Genesis 11:28-29, KJV).

Application

Though Iscah receives minimal biblical attention, her inclusion in Scripture reminds us that God values and preserves the lineage through which Christ would come, regardless of how prominently individuals appear in the biblical narrative.
