God's Dominion Over All Lands
The Bible opens with God's creative authority over the entire earth. In Genesis 1:1, we read that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," establishing His lordship over all geographical spaces, though the term "continents" as we know it today didn't exist in biblical vocabulary. The psalmist captures this beautifully in Psalm 24:1: "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the waters and established it on the streams." God's dominion transcends any human boundary or continental division.
Throughout Scripture, we see God's concern for peoples across vast territories. When He called Abraham, He promised to make him "a father of many nations" (Genesis 17:4), demonstrating that God's blessing extends beyond one land. Similarly, God's covenant with David promised an eternal kingdom whose influence would reach far and wide. The prophets consistently emphasized that God's purposes encompass all nations and peoples, regardless of where they lived geographically.
The Great Commission and Global Reach
Jesus' final command to His disciples encapsulates God's heart for all continents and peoples. In Matthew 28:19-20, He instructed them: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This mandate knows no geographical limits—it embraces every continent and every culture.
The Book of Acts demonstrates this expansion beautifully. As the Holy Spirit empowered the early church, the Gospel moved from Jerusalem through Judea, Samaria, and eventually "to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). Paul's missionary journeys, detailed in Acts, show the church's commitment to crossing vast distances and cultural barriers to proclaim Christ. In Romans 10:18, Paul writes, "But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: 'Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.'" The early believers understood that the Gospel belonged to every continent.
Our Calling Today
As believers in Canada and around the world, we inherit the same commission Jesus gave His first disciples. The existence of continents—whether we think of Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, Australia, or North America—simply represents the scope of our calling, not its limitation. Each continent contains precious souls for whom Christ died, and each represents an opportunity for the Gospel to transform lives and communities.
Our responsibility is to pray for and support Gospel work across all continents, recognizing that believers in every land are part of God's global family. Whether through mission work, financial support, or faithful intercession, Canadian Christians can participate in God's plan to see His name glorified among all peoples everywhere. The Gospel knows no continental boundaries—it is truly good news for all the earth.
